New EU Regulation: Natural Flavors and Plant Extracts to Prioritize Synthetic Additive Replacement
On April 21, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) issued a new official announcement. It stipulates that starting in 2027, natural flavors and plant extracts shall be prioritized to replace certain synthetic additives in foods and dietary supplements, focusing on three major categories: antioxidants, preservatives and colorants.
The new regulation encourages manufacturers to adopt natural ingredients such as rosemary extract and tea polyphenols, while tightening the maximum usage limits for synthetic additives.
This policy will accelerate the clean-label upgrading of the European supplement market and trigger a sharp surge in orders for relevant natural raw materials. Enterprises in Germany, Spain and other European countries have already accelerated production capacity expansion.

Clean Label & Targeted Delivery Become Dual Core Trends
On April 23rd, Spate released its 2026 dietary supplement report, indicating the industry is accelerating its shift toward clean label and precision nutrition.
On the food additive front, European and U.S. policies are vigorously phasing out synthetic additives. The FDA plans to eliminate eight petroleum-based synthetic colorants, triggering a sharp surge in domestic demand for natural alternatives such as rosemary extract and plant polysaccharides.
In the supplement sector, consumer purchasing logic has shifted from simple ingredient stacking to targeted, condition-specific solutions. Gut health and cellular anti-aging products register outstanding growth.
Meanwhile, targeted delivery technologies including liposomes and nanoemulsions have become core competitive advantages, driving the industry’s transition from the raw material era to the absorption-driven era.

China Bans Direct Consumption of Digestive Enzymes, Strict Regulation Reshapes Maternal & Infant Supplement Market
On April 21, Chinese market regulatory authorities issued an official notice clarifying that digestive enzyme products are classified as food-industrial enzyme preparations, which are strictly prohibited from direct consumption as ordinary supplements. They shall not be blended into solid beverages, compressed tablets, candies or other finished products for direct consumer intake.
This regulatory action targets the irregular promotion of imported digestive enzymes exposed in the March 15 Consumer Rights Day investigation, and large-scale product recalls have been initiated across national distribution channels.
The China National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment emphasized that enzyme preparations must fully comply with GB 2760 national standards and are restricted exclusively to food processing applications.
The tightened supervision will accelerate the market consolidation of maternal and infant conditioning products, compelling manufacturers to shift to compliant tracks such as medicinal and edible homologous ingredients.
