900 Containers Abandoned! Vast Majority Originate from China...  

A sudden and unprecedented wave of abandoned shipments has erupted at Mexico's Port of Manzanillo: approximately 900 containers were deserted within a single month, marking a staggering 300% year-on-year surge. The overwhelming majority contained goods from China and were identified as "counterfeit or pirated products." This incident has not only drawn widespread attention across the cross-border logistics industry but has also exposed hidden compliance risks amid Mexico’s increasingly stringent intellectual property regulations.  

This surge in abandoned cargo is not an isolated event but a direct consequence of Mexico’s escalated nationwide crackdown on piracy. According to the Mexican National Customs Agency (ANAM), most of these abandoned shipments were detained during customs inspections due to the inability to provide compliant documentation, ultimately leading shippers or freight forwarders to abandon the goods.  

The official reason cited by ANAM is: Mexico’s intensified nationwide anti-piracy campaign has led shippers/forwarders to abandon goods outright due to their "inability to provide compliant proof."  

Investigations revealed:  
•    Severe discrepancies between the bill of lading/packing list information and the actual cargo;  
•    Overseas agents failed to declare accurate product details as required;  
•    Consignees chose to abandon shipments over fears of substantial fines and legal liabilities.  

The core issue lies in the lack of prior warnings regarding brand infringement risks and weak compliance awareness, culminating in the current situation.
